The Fairfax County Bicycle and Pedestrian Ambassador Program is a grassroots education and encouragement initiative that aims to make Fairfax County a safer place for active transportation and recreation, and to encourage more adults and children to walk and bike. Ambassadors receive training to be able to teach and promote safe cycling and walking practices in a fun and positive way, and assist Fairfax County residents with basic bike maintenance issues in the field or at events. Ambassadors give hands-on presentations on a variety of bike and pedestrian related topics; provide in-the-field education and assistance as needed; hand out materials at local events; and model good bicycle and pedestrian behavior at all times. Ambassadors can choose from a variety of volunteer opportunities depending on personal interest and experience. Volunteersare expected to commitat least 10 hours annually to this program.
