Project Description

Community Residences, Inc. (CR) provides programs and services to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental health diagnosis as well as homeless men, women and young adults. These quality services enable individuals with a wide range of disabilities to live as independently as possible.

While public funding provides basic needs and services for our residents, it is private donations and volunteer efforts that assist CR in providing interactive and joyful events. Events hosted in the local community and supported by volunteers is truly a special treat for the individuals supported by CR. It provides increased happiness, a sense of belonging and feeling welcomed by the community.

Community Residences is hosting a 5k fun run or walk fundraising event at Burke Lake Park on 16 June at 9am. Volunteers are needed to man water stations, act as course sentries, assist with registration and packet pickup as well as help with set up and clean up. Setup volunteers are needed as early as 6:30am or 7am depending on the amount we get. Some of the volunteer opportunities do not require you to be present for entire event. So if you only have an hour or two, please let us know when you register so we can place you in opportunities that fit your schedule. If you would like to volunteer AND run or walk, you would need to let us know in advance as well.

If you do not want to volunteer and only want to participate in the event, you will need to register as an individual or as a team if you have more than one person. To get started: register with us and let us know if you are an individual or a group. For groups, you can organize a group of friends, family, co-workers or neighbors that are interested in participating. Select one person to be the team captain, come up with a team name and register your group together.

This event is a great opportunity for groups of all sizes! Few examples are school clubs or sports teams, Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, Teachers and students and small businesses just to name a few. We are also looking for a middle or high school Cheer team interested in volunteering together to encourage our participants along the route.

Please support CR residents by registering and reaching out for further information. We thank you for your kindness and support!
